Foster Cat Chats

Inside Buddy Foster's World

Mommy, Am I Right or Left Pawed?

Are you a cat?  If so, are you left or right-handed, make that pawed?  There is a way to find out.

Why you would want to know which is your dominant paw, I am not sure.  But Mommy   seems to think it is important.

Here is how to tell if you are right or left-pawed.

  1. Have your Mommy put a treat in a glass.
  2. Use your paw to get the treat.
  3. The paw you used is your dominant paw.

It is a good idea if your cat knows what is going on. Otherwise, like me, he may put his head in the glass first.

I couldn’t get the treat that way so I put my left paw in the glass.

No luck, so I used my right paw.

Still no luck.  Mommy was disappointed because she could not determine my dominant paw.  I was disappointed because I had no treat.  Mommy gave me a treat anyway.  She even made a video of me.

Cute! And might be interesting to find out about my four.

I hope you have better luck than I did. Buddy seems to be ambidextrous. On a different note would any or all of your cats, separately or together, like to do a guest post on Buddy’s blog ?

Maybe Buddy is ambidextrous. 🙂 That can be a good thing, as it means your cat thinks outside of the box more and is ambitious. Another way to tell is if your cat is hunting for something; cats raise up one paw just like dogs do. I see this more in outdoor cats, but I bet Buddy would do that, too, indoors with a treat hidden somewhere where you know he’ll find it.

I have nominated you for the Liebster Award. For more information, check out my blog post:

Thank you so much for the nomination, Robin. I really appreciate being nominated for these awards since it shows that someone enjoys what I am doing. I have been busy with the A to Z Challenge but will do my Liebster Award post and pick my nominees in the next couple of days. Thanks again. Purrs to Amelias from Buddy.

No rush on that–I’ve had people say that to me as well re. having time to do things. Sounds like the A to Z Challenge is interesting. And Amelia sends purrs right back to you and Buddy.

BTW, Amelia is right-pawed. I’ve seen several pictures where she has the right paw up, mainly for expression and during tracking.

I'd love to hear what you think of this post.
