Inside Buddy Foster's World

Buddy Foster: Guard Duty

As you know, I, Buddy Foster, am the official security for my household. I had been concentrating my guard duty on the back patio door because that is where the ferocious orange cat made his thwarted attempt to attack the house.  I have not seen him since that day, although it is not due to a lack of vigilance on my part. I have been informed by Mommy that orange cat is actually named Jinx, lives next door, and does not go outside in the winter. Wuss!!

I have decided to refocus my energies on the front door which Mommy and the man use more often.  This is clearly a more dangerous area with unknown humans and cars passing regularly. First I would stand five feet inside the door and look through to assess the area.  Next, I graduated to sitting in the doorway as Mommy was getting ready to leave and looking both ways to make sure all was clear.

Where’s the ferocious cat?

I have now reached the stage where I patrol the front step.  I walk around the perimeter, sniff the air and listen to threatening sounds.  As Mommy puts on her coat and boots I walk around the step, nonchalantly chewing on a dried flower stem, while all the time surveying the neighbourhood.  When Mommy is ready to leave the house she calls me and I go inside, my duty done.

The man is not pleased with my guard duty.  I think he feels he should be the one guarding Mommy and says I should not be outside. But you know the old saying:

“Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should just get used to the idea.”

Does he let the online world know he’s a naughty boy? We have to think of how to present this. Nanny Val. How cute.

Great stories about Buddy–I especially appreciate this one, as it reminds me of Amelia, the stray-kitten-now-almost-grown cat who became friends with my dog. Those two are the craziest gal pals when they’re together! Amelia’s decided to step up to the plate as a “watchcat”; she watches me and Shiloh during the outdoor breaks until we get back inside. Looks like I’ll be coming back to read more of Buddy’s escapades.

I'd love to hear what you think of this post.
